The Red Magician Tarot answers: The Lovers [VI].

Is this the most cliché answer ever, or what. Though only one card is on the table, there are multiple layers of meaning to be derived. The most shallow answer is that of a mirror. You are asking about love, so what is love to you? Have you made yourself into someone that can give and receive love, or are you still holding yourself to other people’s (read: society’s) standards for what makes you deserving of love? (Hint: That’s bullshit.)

So let’s skip that shallow read and go a little deeper. Let’s say that you’ve already done that work, but you still don’t have the companion that you want. Now the card is asking you to put the above lesson into practice. If you don’t have the external companion that you want, then make of yourself the internal companion that you need. Hold yourself to the same standards that you would hold your companion. That includes yielding your immediate desires so that your long term goals can be completed.
