The Legacy of the Divine’s meanings read like a reconciliation between Waite and Crowley. While purists of either system will be howling at the mingling of meanings and symbolism, the deck stands for itself and Leisa ReFalo’s meanings have proven themselves over the years.
Today’s cards: Ace of Coins, 5 of Swords, & Knight of Wands. Continue reading What Does The Deck Say? June 04 2014
The decorated pillar of a grand edifice stand in the middle of this card and divides the view into two portions. The top of the pillar is engraved with three large upright pentacles with a crossed circle joining them in the middle. Below the three pentacles is a crossed circle appearing as a leafed rose. To the viewer’s left is the craftsman responsible. He stands on a work bench with his back to the viewer but his work apron is seen clearly. In his left hand is a chisel applied to the wall. In his right is the mallet required to use it. He is turned away from the wall and is facing the two men on the other side of the pillar. The two men, one with a monk’s tonsure and habit, the other full cloaked and hooded, are discussing the plans of the edifice with the craftsman. The cloaked man hold the plans clearly before him, as if to question a detail. Continue reading 3 of Pentacles

A man is seated on a throne that faces nearly completely to the viewer’s left. The tall back of the throne is adorned with heraldic lions and coiled salamanders. He wears a cap of maintenance under his crown. A lion’s head amulet lies over his fringed cloak which is also adorned with coiled salamanders. His robe covers to his ankles and his feet are shod. His hands are bare. He holds in his right hand an upright budding staff which extends to the floor before the podium. The sky is clear, and to the lower right of the card is the intimation of a hill or distant mountain. Sharing the podium with the man is a small living salamander. Continue reading King of Wands
30 Days of Tarot — Day 19: Do you feel/think the cards “think” or have their own consciousness? What do you believe makes the cards “tick?” (Is it magic/outside influences or all in the mind?)
Despite all my rants about the cards trolling me and expressing sharp edges of sarcasm, the cards do not have an inherent consciousness. Continue reading 30 Days of Tarot: Day Nineteen
The Fey Tarot is the work of Mara Aghem and Riccardo Minetti. While the card names mostly track conventional tarot naming, the scenes differ from Pamela Coleman Smith’s renditions. Not all minors display the full pip count of their number. Rather, the scenes are meant to evoke the intuition of the reader rather than depend on long lists of regurgitated meanings.
Today’s cards: 6 of Wands, 6 of Pentacles, & 8 of Swords. Continue reading What Does The Deck Say? June 02 2014
Three women hold a gay meeting in this card. They face each other so that two faces are visible and the third faces away from the viewer. They lift large chalices into the air over each other as if to cheer the occasion. Two of them have flowers in their hair. One is carries a bunch of grapes in her other hand. The sky is cloudless behind them. On the ground at their feet are fruiting plants and vines. There is an overall sense of gaiety. Continue reading 3 of Cups
