Yes, your suspicions are correct. But this is not the clear answer you were looking for. You now have an addition burden. You should still get proof via a chain that will hold up to those others you want to make your case to. (Doubt they will believe a random card reader on the internet.) In addition, you also have to maintain appearances until you have that extra layer of proof. By all means, do what you have to do to protect yourself and your concerns, but do so in a manner that will hold up before a panel of your peers.
