You are not the best of companions, right now. But the fact that you are aware you are not is more evidence of why the spirit remains with you than anything else I can say. (But I shall say it, anyway.) The spirit remains with you because you are a work in progress. Because you need some shaping up and shaving down. Because you know what they know: You’re not the best you could be. But the spirit is making an investment in you because they know something you don’t: That with time and work, you can become the best you can be. The spirit is staying with you because they see the end result and they want to share that with you. And that’s a wonderful thing.
