30 Days of Tarot — Day 18: Do you feel a “connection” to your cards?
Define “connection”. Do I have an emotional attachment to my cards? Yes.
Each deck means something different to me, and that has definitely changed from the original reasons why I acquired each deck to now. There is a sense of “These cards have seen me through some shit.”, and that they and I are still here is a source of comfort. My hands and my experiences have worn them, reducing their resale value but making them precious to me. So, in that emotional understanding, I have a deep personal connection to these battered decks.
That is not to say I could not read with foreign decks. It is like driving your neighbor’s car. Here is the gas, and here is the steering wheel. The hands may complain about the weird texture of the steering wheel grips, but the wheels still turn. If it is a deck I am not acquainted with, I won’t be able to read with the deck’s unique meanings, but rather with my accumulated understanding. The names may change for language and theme, but 78 tarot cards are 78 tarot cards.
